Class Tips & Etiquette

Sometimes it can be a little intimidating to go to a new class or program. I am hoping some of these tips and class etiquette will help:

Wear something that allows you to be comfortable and move freely.

Yoga and Pilates is traditionally practiced in bare feet – this allows our feet to firmly root into the mat, especially during standing poses and balance exercises. Barefoot engages important muscles, builds stability and can strengthen our feet and ankles.

Bring your mat and water; A few extra mats are there in case you forget yours.(Depending on Location).

Yoga blocks and straps are provided, if you like. (Oromocto location). Additional props for yoga such as; pillows, blankets, bolsters, you may bring from home. A pillow or thicker towel is of great use to bring from home for extra comfort for your head and knees.

Pilates

During Pilates I may use other props to further challenge my participants and to keep the program fresh and interesting, they are provided for you: rollers, bands, mini weighted pilates balls, mini pilates stability balls etc. A pillow or thicker towel is of great use to bring from home for extra comfort for your head and knees in Pilates as well.

  • Always be kind and respectful to your fellow practitioners and teacher.
  • If there are personal concerns you think I should know – please let me know privately after class (pertinent injuries, knee or hip replacements, etc.).
  • Remove your shoes prior to entering the class.
  • Keep cell phones off or on vibrate in the room.
  • Arrive on time; 5-10 min prior is good. This allows me time to set up the room (Oromocto)and clear the space if needed.
  • If you arrive a few minutes late due to an unforeseen circumstance, enter quietly and set up near the back of the room. If you are more than 8-10 min late – please refrain from entering the class that day to respect your fellow practitioners. I often start in Relaxation pose (Savasana). Try to get there on time next class.
  • If you need to leave early due to an unforeseen circumstance, please let me know & kindly leave quietly.

Thank you, Namaste
